Cannes and Côte d'Azur

Getting Around

Serenity and seclusion are not typically the two words that come to mind when describing the iconic Cote d’Azur, which is why the hidden sanctuary of Le Grand Jardin is so unique. You are only a 10-minute journey by private boat or helipad from the famous city of Cannes.

Getting to Sainte-Marguerite couldn't be easier. Arrive at Nice Cote d'Azur Airport (NCE), or fly privately to Cannes, and drive to Port de Cannes, where a 10-minute speedboat ride will take you directly to the prestigious private property of Le Grand Jardin. You can also fly by Helicopter directly to Le Grand Jardin from Nice or Cannes.

Ile Sainte-Marguerite

Sainte-Marguerite has long allured the world’s elite, and Le Grand Jardin is no exception. Previous owners of the island include Louis XIV and the 15th-century Dukes of Guise, and many believe the infamous Man in the Iron Mask, rumoured to be the brother of Louis XIV, was once held captive in the island’s fortress. Legend also has it that Napoleon once grazed his horses in the garden while cannonballs were prepared elsewhere on the island before being fired at passing ships.

The largest of four islands in the Lérins archipelago, Sainte-Marguerite is a unique destination that has provided inspiration for artists like Pablo Picasso, Francis Picabia and photographer Lee Miller. Each was known to visit the island to seek respite from the mainland. Classified as a biological reserve since 2002, the Mediterranean island features diversified flora and fauna.

Things to Do

Glistening shores lined with yachts, revered regattas, and row upon row of palatial hotels and boutiques — Cannes has never been short on things to see or do. And when staying at Le Grand Jardin, activities are literally on your doorstep.

Steeped in history and rich in natural beauty, days here can begin with diving over the eco-museum right in front of the property, to afternoon wine tasting in the iconic Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Or stroll through the historical Provencal district of Le Suquet, with its cobbled alleyways and hidden dungeons, and sail around the mighty Massif de l’Esterel in all its beauty. And of course, the well-known La Guérite located on the island of Sainte-Marguerite.

There are plenty of bespoke experiences to be enjoyed on Le Grand’s Jardin’s sprawling grounds, too. Open Air Cinema experiences, Cooking lessons and bespoke wellness programmes are just a few.
